2019 Hackathon: Pulling Together to Win

What is the Hackathon?

Overview
Hack Tracks

The Hackathon is a once-a-year opportunity for colleagues to put their day jobs on hold for 48 hours and come together to creatively solve a problem or harness a new opportunity for the business. While Hackathons are historically technology based, the naviHealth Hackathon welcomes all types of ideas. See the “Hack Tracks” tab for inspiration and guidance as you dream up your idea. Your goal should be to submit an idea that will have a positive impact on the organization, the patients we serve, or the industry overall.

The Hackathon committee will select 10 colleague ideas for this year’s event. Teams will work together to develop a presentation or prototype for these ideas with the support of a Hackathon mentor. Teams will then present to a judging panel and live audience for a chance to win prizes and recognition. Winning teams will have an opportunity to see their idea come to life at naviHealth.

Track 1. Overlapping Markets
Track 2. Patient/Clinical Workflow Enhancements
Track 3. Internal Processes
Track 4. Innovating for the Future

With the recent growth related to our health plan and value-based care relationships (e.g., Humana, United, Aetna, Tenet, Froedtert, etc.), we see more and more geographical areas with overlapping solutions (e.g., nH Discharge, nH Intake, nH Predict, nH Access), and/or nuances across solutions and clinical services within same market (e.g., United & pre-service review arrangement).

How can naviHealth best realize the combined value of its products and services? Are there any tools that can optimize the overlap for better client experience or great efficiencies and outcomes (e.g., Network Formation & nH Intake)? Or perhaps support the variance in expected behavior or deliverables?

naviHealth coordinates care for patients who have increasingly complex needs, including chronic or life-limiting illnesses.

How can we support patients and/or caregivers in innovative ways, during an episode of care, to help patients access resources they need to self-manage in the community and avoid unnecessary rehospitalizations (e.g., Mercy/PatientPing)?

How can we move upstream to take on the physician/patient relationship more directly from a risk standpoint? E.g., Is there a tool to support a physician in bidirectional communication?

naviHealth is in a period of intense growth.

What are some improvements or changes to internal processes we can make that can better position us for continued scale or greater efficiencies?

In an increasingly competitive industry, naviHealth needs to look ahead beyond business as usual. We can’t be all things to all people, so staying true to the core of our business (services and software) while also finding new innovations just on the edge of our core is important for continued success.

How can naviHealth evolve its existing solutions, or develop a complementary solution, to further differentiate our offerings, ultimately boosting customer retention and generating new business? Examples include Dr. LaBine’s vision around Chronic (Complex) Care Management, our recent partnership with Cerner on a VBC Platform, and perhaps exploring risk partnerships for MediCal/Medicaid populations, requiring ISNP experience.

Congrats again to all of our Hackathon participants!

We will keep you posted on how we're bringing this year's winning ideas to life at naviHealth.

In an increasing competitive industry, naviHealth needs to do more than simply serve customers (patients, providers, contracted clients) needs. We must delight customers. How can naviHealth enhance its existing products or add a complementary product to further differentiate our offerings to boost customer retention and generate new business?

Idea:
As our company and the amount of information we process continues to grow, there will be a strong need for a solution that optimizes the way our clinicians and Utilization Management staff handle the administrative task of data entry.

Where the project is now:
We are consolidating all documentation into a single source location (ePAC) to decrease time spent on data entry, duplicate documentation, and improve the quality of our documentation thru more discrete data fields.

Idea:
Blockchain technology is proposed to simulate a patient’s episode of care. We will implement a smart contract to facilitate a special use case of enrollment and dis-enrollment based on the patient’s DRG code.

Where the project is now:
This idea served as a stepping stone for a new idea – to develop a master data management strategy, which we will execute over time based on business needs.
